a day on the sofa

Well after saturdays exploits i tried to do nothing yesterday but a gym workout and my muscles feel like i havent done one for about 4 months. Thats because i havent done one in 4 months and im sore all over. So much for a rest day.

I did however spend some time with the bike on sunday. I cleaned every little bit of it after the wicklow wipeout of the day before. All my training wheels are even cleaned and greased now.

Tomorrow il do the Leinster 3 day and the club race on Thursday too. Lets hope the legs work again!!

To rest or not to rest, that is the question…

So, a big weekend of cycle racing ahead and after four reasonably hard weeks i have decided to take a recovery week. Now funnily enough this recovery week will still entail 2 days of slaying legs on the weekend so its not exactly feet up with a cup of cocoa infront of Corrie.

I still think that it will be a good thing as excessive training load only makes you stronger once the body has rested and adapted to it physically.

i found http://www.trainingbible.com/pdf/What_Is_Fatigue.pdf interesting and his book “cyclists training bible” http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyclists-Training-Bible-Joe-Friel/dp/1934030201/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239205235&sr=8-1

A great book that was good for beginners and more advanced. A great introduction to self coaching and body management.

Il let you know how well rested i feel after the weekend!
